Toby
Atticus Fraley - Biography
Toby Atticus
Fraley was born and raised in Washington, PA. He graduated from
Washington High School in 1996 and attended California University
of Pennsylvania from 1996 to 1998. From 1998 until now Toby has
concentrated his artistic studies on oil painting and ceramics.
Over the past four years he has been in over 25 national and regional
shows, receiving awards in a handful of them. In the spring of 2002
Toby became a self employed artist and now sells his work to over
30 galleries across the United States. He is also currently a member
of the Craftsmen's Guild of Pittsburgh.
Toby's oil paintings
focus mainly on ordinary places or objects, often set in an era
before his birth. Bowling alleys, airports and motels are among
the common place scenes captured in his landscape paintings. Additionally
he has an ongoing series of paintings, featuring antique tin toys,
which began in college and carried into his post school studies.
The toys are always painted as if they were just pulled from their
boxes in mint condition - not as they would appear today.
Locally, Fraley
shows his work at World West Galleries and the Society for Contemporary
Craft in Pittsburgh.
